Weigert Ultra-high bas relief German print of Apollo 15 moon rock

Bas relief reproduction of moon rock no 15536 obtained during the Apollo 15 mission, manufactured by Franz Weigert, Neuberg, Germany, 1972, embossed plastic, sight 100 x 135 mm, mounted within original board shadow mount, captioned lower left "Moon Rock No. 15536" and lower right "Apollo 15 (July 26 - Aug. 7, 1971)," original lucite cover, framed, printed caption on verso.

An unusual relic of the space age. Dupont Magazine published an article on what Weigert called their fossil "embossments," and explained, "Franz Weigert, Bavarian engraver, creates precision replicas of fossils as prints. A silicon rubber cast is taken from the original. Embossing dies are prepared from the resulting replicas. Color-separation sets are made from photographs of the original" (Kappler, abstract).
