Footnotes

  • This very rare object is believed to be a counter-weight for a suspended ceiling light, an early example of Moorcroft's belief that the design of useful pieces was as important as producing pieces purely for ornament. It shows the varied range of pieces that James Macintyre & Co manufactured, this piece perhaps being a cross-over between their more utilitarian pieces and the Art Pottery department.
