Court mounted as worn. Toned, good very fine. (Lot)

    The lot comes with a large quantity of original documentation, MID Certificates, service papers, educational certificates, an album of photographs, buttons and insignia, together with his sword with engraved blade (Presented by The Marine Society to Donald Valentine Crew on his promotion to Warrant Rank in the Royal Navy 1st July 1935), together with a old leather suitcase of his.

    Lieutenant D.V.Crew was born on the 14th February 1902. He joined the Training Ship Warspite before joining the Royal Navy on the 13th January 1917 aged 15. he witnessed the scuttling of the German Fleet at Scarpa Flow in June 1919 whilst serving on Royal oak. On the 13th September 1922 he attended the Royal Navy Submarine School. He was promoted to the rank of Gunner on the 1st October 1936 and became a Commissioned Gunner "T" on the 8th April 1945. During WW2 he served on the destoyer HMA Quickmatch and is featured in their house magazine as "Popee". He left the Royal Navy with the rank of Lieutenant on the 16th January 1952 having served for over 33 years. He died on the 31st March 1972.
