A party of four was flown to Horseshoe Island on the west coast of Grahamland in March 1960. The party was made up of a surveyor, geologist, radio operator and medical officer. From March until October they were stationed at Horseshoe Island and their main job was to carry out geological and topographical surveying in the surrounding fjords. From October until March 1961 their base was Stonington Island. Most of the period was spent sledging in untravelled country on the mainland to the south-east of Stonington.
