Lady Hutt was maried to Alexander McDonald Bruce Hutt who served with the Colonial Service in East Africa and served in Tanganyika from 1926-54 ending as Chief Secretary to the Colony. From 1954-59 he was Administrator of the East African High Commission, including much of the Mau Mau Emergency in Kenya. Mrs Hutt worked as a Red Cross Volunteer during this period. Hutt was Knighted in 1956 and retired in 1959. They lived at Hill Crest in Natal, South Africa.
