one bar, Off Mardoe 6 July 1812 (Henry Sanderson, Asst Surgn). With portrait miniature of him, housed in glazed case, the reverse containing two lockets of hair, and a large oil on canvas portrait of him in later life wearing his medal. The picture contained in contemporary gilt and gesso frame. Edge bruise at 6 o'clock, otherwise very fine. (Lot)

  • Surgeon Henry Sanderson begins his naval career aboard HMS Dictator, a 3rd rate of 1783, from the 16th May 1811 serving as an Assistant Surgeon until the 6th October 1812, when he transfers to HMS Victory serving briefly until the 17th December 1812. He joins HMS Akbar on the 3rd June 1813 serving aboard her until the 28th October 1813. He transfers to HMS Iris on the 29th October and serves aboard her as both Surgeon and Assistant Surgeon, he leaves her on the 13th December 1814. He transfers to HMS Insolent on the 21st January 1815 as a Surgeon finally being discharged on the 18th September 1815.

    He is noted as living at Musselburgh, Edinburgh when he is put on Half-Pay.

    A total of 47 Off Mardoe 6 July 1812 bars were issued.
