  • Doctor Joseph Patrick Fagan was the appointed Medical Officer in Niger Coast Protectorate under the Foreign Office from the 25th April 1894. He was in charge of medical charge in the operations against Chief Nana, Benin River (and specially mentioned in despatches) in that year, he was also engaged in the operations against the King of Benin with the Aro Field Force (for which he had the medal and clasp) in 1901-02. He was appointed Senior Medical Officer in May 1903, he became Deputy P.M.O. Northern Nigeria in August 1907 and was promoted to be Principal Medical Officer in August 1911. He retired on Pension in October 1912. He died aged 57 and was creamted at Golders Green Crematorium.

    He principally served at Bonny and the lot includes a report entitled "Proceedings of a committee held at Bonny on July 9th 1901", relating to Malaria Fever Prevention.
