Haden Guest Unit.); British War and Victory Medal (L.Irvine); France, Croix de Guerre, dated 1914 1918, with bronze star; Khedive's Star, dated 1884-6. Very fine or better. (7)

Footnotes

  • The Haden Guest Unit was set up by Lord Leslie Haden-Guest and was situated in a Paris Hotel in September 1914 it was an Anglo-French hospital and he was soon founding others at Limoges and Nevers. He also helped to start the Anglo-French Committee of the British Red Cross and Order of St.John and as its secretary helped raise money and organise hospitals for British, French and Belgian troops and Belgian Civilians. Later in the war he serves wih the RAMC and wins the Military Cross for rescuing wounded under fire at Passchendaele. After serving in Egypt and Palestine in 1918, he resumed his medical and political work in London. He died in 1960.
