  • Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel Richard Nugent Stoker was born on the 31st October 1851, he was educated at Dublin at the Royal College of Surgeons, and took the L.R.C.S.I. in 1873 and the L.K.Q.C.P. in 1874. He entered the indian Medical Service as a Surgeon on the 30th September 1874. He served in the Afghan campaign, after the war he was appointed Garrison Surgeon of Fort Attock and held that post until his promotion to Surgeon Major on 30th September 1886, when he was posted to one of the newly raised Gurkha battalions, which he served in the Sikkim campaign of 1888 on the North East Frontier of India, and took part in the forcing of the Jelapla Pass. He was promoted to Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel on the 30th September 1894. He retired on the 2nd April 1900 and died on the 14th June 1931 at Duncans, British Columbia, aged 79.
