    Colonel Harold Cane Godding was born on the 9th December 1891 at Portsmouth, Hampshire MRCS Eng LRCP Lond 1913 (Guy's) TC: Lieutenant 19th December 1914; Captain 19th December 1915. PRAC: Lt (T/Capt) 1 Jan 1917 (19 Dec 1914). Capt 19 June 1918; Major 19 Dec 1926; A/Lt.Col 5th Jan 1940; Lt Col 11 March 1940; A/Col 9 March to 10th April 1942 and 19th August 1942 to 18 Jan 1943; T/Col 19 Jan 1943; Colonel 13 Mar 1945 (11 Mar 1943). r.p. 8th August 1948. Ceased Reserve of Officers 9th December 1951. He died on the 20th September 1961.

    He served in France from Jan-Oct 1915, then India from January to May 1916. Mesopotamia 1916-21. W.Africa 1921-22 and 1923-24; India 1926-31 and North West Frontier 1930-31. He was seconded under the Colonial Office from 1933-35; Egypt 1935-36; Palestine 1936-37. Served with the BEF in France from September 1939 until January 1940. CO of 3rd Armoured Div/Lt Fd Amb 1940-41: MEF 1940-41: ADMS HQ2 Armd Div Mar-Apr 1941, PW 1941-42. ADMS HQ 61 Inf Div 1942-44. W.Africa Feb-Jun 44: CO 34 (WA) Gen Hosp Apr 44, 152 (WA) Gen Hosp 1944-45; India 1944-47: CO 41 IGH (C) 1945-46, IAMC Depot 1946-47. CO Mil Hosp Catterick 1947-48.
