Military Cross, G.V.R., engraved on reverse (W.F.Warren. Q.O.R.W.K. 1917.); Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, four bars, Cape Colony, Wittebergen, Transvaal, S.A.01 (2438 Cpl W.Marren, 2nd RL.W.Kent Regt); 1914 Star (W.F.Warren. Aus: Vol: Hosp:); British War and Victory Medal with MID oakleaf (Q.M. & Lieut.W.F.Warren.). Some contact wear to the QSA, otherwise very fine. (5)

    The lot includes assorted copied research as well as several copied photographs from the Australian War Memorial including several group shots and one of the Queensland Australian Hospital at the Australian Voluntary Hospital at Wimereux in 1914.

    He is confirmed as arriving in France with the Australian Volunteer Hospital (Pte 15) on the 29th August 1914 and left the unit on the 21st February 1915.

    A total of approx less than 70 1914 Stars to the Australian Volunteer Hospital. The unit was mobilised on the 19th August camping in the grounds of the Ranelagh Club. Eight days later the unit was ready to take to the field and on the 29th August the Hospital arrived at Le Havre in Greta and the transport Siptah. With the Germans pressing closer the hospital was loaded and sailed for St.Nazaire on the 3rd September. The unit again was moved later that month to Wimereux, five miles from Boulogne, where it was to remain until early 1919.

    His MIC notes a replacement Victory Medal being issued in August 1921.
