Footnotes

  • D.C.M. London Gazette 3.9.1919.

During the spring operation he was the N.C.O. responsible for evacuating the 12 in howitzers on the Doune Valley line on April 10th, 1918. He accompanied the engine to the gun spurs, coupled up the guns himself, and saw them safely housed before returning to camp. This evacuation was carried out under very heavy enemy shell fire, and the work done by him on this occasion and later in connection with demolition work was splendid.
