A Second World War D.F.C. group of three to Flying Officer T.W.Mackenzie, Royal Air Force,
Distinguished Flying Cross, G.VI.R., dated 1944; Defence Medal; War Medal. With logbook, box for DFC with Buckingham Palace letter, riband bar also showing entitlement to 1939-1945 Star and Air Crew Europe Star, photograph and newspaper cuttings. Extremely fine. (Lot)

    Flying Officer Thomas W.Mackenzie was born in 1920 at Lanarkshire. He was educated at Lesmahagow Higher Grade School, Larkhall Academy and Glasgow University. He enlisted for Air Crew in 1941 and began training with 44 Air School in Grahamstown, South Africa as an Air Bomber. He transfers to 20 OTU in March 1943. He baled out on a training mission on the 7th May 1943 and the aircraft crashed at Benbecula. He then transfers to 78 Squadron in August 1943, and carried out raids on Milan, Peenmunde (17th August 1943), Leverkusen, Berlin and Nurnberg. He then carries out numerous raids through 1943 and the beginning of 1944. He completes his first tour in May 1944 having completed 29 sorties.
