(Corpl J.Austin. 1st Batn 6th Regt.). Very light contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise very fine. (1)


  • John Austin enlisted in the Newry District as a Private with the 6th Foot on 14th February 1846, aged 17yrs 1 month. He served at Cork from April to June 1846, then from July 1846 until March 1950 at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Town. From July 1850 to March 1851 with British Kaffraria. Then from April 1851 to December 1857 Cape of Good Hope. He then served briefly at Calcutta, Buskutoo and Benares and finally from October 1858 to December 1859 Azimghur. He was discharged at his own request on the 16th January 1860.

    Confirmed on roll as having served in the 2nd and 3rd Kaffir Wars. Confirmed as Austen on roll and later musters.

    With details of service extracted from the Regimental Musters. Enlisted at Newry 14 February 1846 aged 17 years 1 month, served in South Africa and India, discharged at his own request 16 January 1860 in Calcutta.
