    He is a stretcher-bearer, and had on many occasions shown great gallantry in the discharge of his duties, notably during an enemy attack on Route "A" Keep, north-west of Festubert, on 30th May 1918. During the bombardment and during the attack he walked along the parados of the trench encouraging the men, and continued attending to wounded men. He set a fine example of cheerfulness and courage of his comrades.

    For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty when the Batt: attacked Fresnoy-le-Grand on Oct 9th 1918 & during subsequent operations on 10th Oct. This man who is a Stretcher Bearer showed great gallantry & devotion in attending to wounded on the night of 9th Oct, when Fresnoy-le-Grand was very heavily shelled. Later during the advance to the Bohain-Sebon Court Rd he was wounded but contined to carry out his duties until ordered to return to the Regt Aid Post. He set a fine example of courage & devotion to duty.

    The lot includes 2 photographs, Prayer book, 4th Army letter, 46th North Midland Division commendation cards (2), assorted photocopied research.

    Copies of war diary which note him as receiving his MM for good work during the operations from the 29th September 1918 onwards
