Captain James Alexander Terras Bell was born in 1871 at Christchurch, New Zealand. He studied at Grammar Schools in New Zealand and studied medicine from 1891-95, M.B., C.M. 1895, served as a Civil Surgeon in the Boer War and was Surgeon Captain with the Cape Medical Staff Corps. He served in New Zealand from 26.8.1914 to 14.10.1914, was at sea from 15.10.1914 to 3.12.1914, Egypt from 3.12.1914 to 29.12.1914. He died from a brain haemorrhage on the 29th December 1914. He is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetry. He was the son of Mr and Mrs J.T.Bell and husband to K.M.Bell of Gloucester St. Christchurch.
