Late 16th Century
With robust russet steel bow secured by its original cords with remains of the original woollen pom-poms, original string of twisted cords, ebonised wooden tiller swelling towards the centre and slightly hollowed for the cheek on one side, the top and bottom veneered in white staghorn engraved with designs of blackened foliage involving a grotesque mask, all within foliate and ropework borders, the sides profusely inlaid with white staghorn dots and florets, the latter centred on iron pins, later iron fore-sight, bone nut, dark horn bolt-clip, iron cranequin lugs, curved trigger-lever of partly faceted tapering circular section, swivelling safety-catch, folding set trigger, iron ring for suspension, and white horn butt-plate (some wear, minor damage and repairs)
