A Russian Dragoon Officer's 1881/1909 Pattern Shashka Awarded For Bravery
Reign Of Nicholas II (1894-1917), Circa 1915
With nickel-plated slightly curved fullered blade (minor areas of rust patination) double-edged at the point, the forte stamped over each side with maker's details in Russian, inspector's marks and numbers, regulation brass hilt cast and chased with laurel decoration and comprising knuckle-guard extending to form a downcurved ring quillon and engraved 'For Bravery' in Russian along each side, the latter stamped beneath with circular maker's mark, probably of Slava, Moscow, copper pommel with cypher of Nicholas II in an oval on the back above a border of laurel, threaded oval pommel-cap (enamelled Order of St. Anne fourth class missing), and ribbed hard-rubber grip (chipped), in original wood-lined leather-covered scabbard (minor damage) with brass locket, chape and suspension mount, the last with suspension ring
