The black leather two-piece skull stitched together and fitted with gilt-copper mounts and three rows of overlapping scales (two missing) around the brim, all embossed with a row of shell-like ornament, gilt-copper crest embossed with a panel of ornament against a punched ground along both sides and with a Medusa head at the front, original plaited and falling horsehair plume complete with its bound 'shaving brush', the latter on a wooden mount retaining the original silver wire and ribbon binding, gilt-copper shako plate of 1816-18 pattern with crown over 'Waterloo', double 'GR' cyper over 'Penninsular', and unit label beneath of the '1st. Or Royal Dragoon', distinctive gilt rose-pattern supporters each retaining a single element of the chin-scales, leather peak (slight buckling) with gilt-copper trim, the interior lined with green skiver, retaining its quilted black silk lining (damaged), and in remarkable 'untouched' condition retaining nearly all its original gilding
