A Pair Of Central Italian 40-Bore Snaphaunce Belt Pistols
Late 17th Century
With three-stage barrels octagonal then polygonal at the breech, engraved at the rear with overlapping foliage and a band of beadwork, and stamped 'Lazari Cominaz' on the top flat, slender tangs engraved with fruit and foliage, rounded locks engraved with flowers and foliated scrolls and provided with full cock position only, chiselled details on the arms of the steels and on the steel-springs, the cocks secured by a nut on the inner side, figured full stocks (minor cracks) inset with flat iron plaques pierced and engraved with interlaced foliated scrollwork involving flower-heads, berries and birds, iron mounts engraved en suite and including trigger-guards each with pierced finial and pommels with long spurs, belt hooks each with chiselled finial, engraved iron fore-end bands, baluster ramrod-pipes, and original iron-capped ramrods (2)
