Mid-16th Century
With heavy one-piece skull with engrailed comb followed on either side by a sunken tapering band, the engrailing and bands extending over the visor, the comb pierced with two holes for a crest (plume-holder missing), with pairs of holes beneath on each side for lining laces, and with four holes over the ears on both sides, the visor and upper- and lower-bevors pivoted at the same points on either side and retained by a threaded washer secured by a pin, the prow-shaped visor with horizontal vision slits divided centrally and with lifting-peg fitting into the upper-bevor and also operating a sprung catch engaging with a hole at the front on the upper right side, the upper-bevor overlapping it and pierced with a circular arrangement of breaths on the right side, a further lifting-peg beneath, lower-bevor shaped to the chin and with hinged locking-catches engaging with pin-catches on the upper-bevor and on the skull, the lower edges at the front and rear with engrailed hollowed turn bordered by dome-headed brass lining rivets, and with a pivoting bar to hold the visor and upper-bevor in the open position (some light pitting and old varnish overall)
