A Rare 1856 Pattern Full Dress Cap Of An Officer In The 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers
Circa 1901-10
The black patent leather skull with red cloth trencher top (very minor moth damage) and black patent leather peak inlaid with gold wire, all gold braid trim and waist lace present, gold pear plume-holder with frontal 'EVIIR' cypher on a dark green velvet ground, ornate multi-rayed frontal plate of gilt-metal with pierced silver overlay displaying the Royal arms, battle honours to South Africa 1899-1902, the Maid and Harp and unit title over shamrocks, lion-mask supporters with velvet-lined chin-chain, the interior with buff-leather sweat-band, and remains of its silk lining, and complete with its black-green cock's feather plume and correct pattern gilt-metal holder: in original japanned carrying tins, the lid of the cap tin with brass escutcheon engraved 'Major H.A. Cape, 5th Lancers' (2)
