A Continental gilt-metal seal case
Circular form, the cover engraved with a double-headed imperial eagle bearing a shield engraved 'FI', with machine-turned base, diameter 16.2cm.

  • The two-headed eagle holds a sword and a sceptre which is a 17th century design for a Holy Roman Emperor - most probably the Emperor of Austria. It is most likely that this would be for an imperial official rather than the Emperor himself.

The FI may stand for FRANCIS or possibly FERDINAND, IMPERATOR.
