A 9 carat gold cigarette case
by Asprey & Co Ltd, London 1924
Rectangular form, the canted banded sides with engine-turned Greek key design, centred with engine-turned panels, the front applied with white metal initials EK, the interior with presentation inscription
"ERIC KENNINGTON FROM THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE 24TH DIVISION 4 OCTOBER 1924", length 10.5cm, weight 137.9oz.

  • Eric Henri Kennington RA 1888 - 1960

    Eric Kennington was a sculptor and painter, known for his memorial carvings, portrait paintings and as a war artist during both world wars.

    Kennington works included the war memorial to the 24th Division (now in Battersea Park) the Division he had served with and the war memorial To The Fallen at Soissons France.

    Kennington was invalided out of the British Army and in August, 1917, he was employed as a war artist (1916 - 1919) by the War Propaganda Bureau to produce pictures of the Western Front. Kennington's paintings, pastels and lithographs include Gassed and Wounded, The Die-Hards and Back to Billets.

    In 1922 Kennington went with T. E. Lawrence to Arabia where he produced pastel drawings of Arab leaders. In 1926 he became art editor of Lawrence's, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom.
