A silver presentation cup
by Alfred James How, London 1930
Cylindrical form with lightly flared rim with presentation inscription to the inside:"PLA Horticultural Society Presented by Rt. Hon Lord Ritchie of Dundee 17th July 1939", the body engraved with husk and strapwork escutcheons and engraved with past recipients, the stem with flange knop and terminating in a trumpet foot, height 20cm; together with three double-handled trophy cups, the first by Alexander Clark & Co Ltd, Birmingham 1927, with flying scroll handles, applied girdle and presentation inscription, height 22cm, the second with maker's mark "CA", London 1947, with presentation inscription, height 12.3cm and the third, Chester 1938, with presentation inscription to front and list of recipients to back, height 20.2cm, weight 55oz. (4)

  • The Rt. Hon Lord Ritchie of Dundee was the second and only surviving son of the Conservative MP, Charles Ritchie (made Baron in 1905), Home Secretary (1900-1902) and later Chancellor of the Exchequer (1902 - 1903).

    Lord Ritchie was Chairman of the Port of London Authority from 1925 - 1941.
