Footnotes

  • This scene is taken from an engraving entitled 'December', one of a series of 'The Months' by Cornelis Dusart. See F.W.H Hollstein, 'Dutch and Flemish Etchings, Engravings and Woodcuts', Amsterdam, vol. VI, fig. 31, p.63. For a very similar dish from the Katz Collection, see M. Beurdeley, 'Porcelain of the East India Companies', London, 1962, p.189, cat.171; another from the G. Pereira Collection, is illustrated by Hervouet and Bruneau, 'La Porcelaine des Indes a Decor Occidental', Paris, 1986, p.83, fig.4.5. There is a smaller dish in the Rijksmuseum.
