A gilt-bronze figure of Tara
15th or 16th century
Seated on a double-lotus pedestal, the slender deity cast with a gently swaying waist, the left leg bent and the right leg on the padma stem in lalitasana, the left hand held up in vitarkamudra and the right resting on the right knee in varadamudra, the breast with heavy Buddhist jewellery and the face calmly downcast beneath a high five-pointed crown. 17cm (6¾in) high
