Nine of iron, comprising: Kaneie type, carved and pierced with boatmen and mountains, signed Yamashiro kuni Fushimi ju Kaneie, 9.5cm (3¾in); three of Hiragiya type, carved and/or pierced and inlaid with Susano-o Mikoto and sages in a garden, 7.9cm (3 1/8in) and 8.5cm (3 3/8in); Kinai School, pierced with a dragon, signed Echizen ju Kinai saku, 9.5cm (3¾in); Katchushi type, of square form, pierced with wooden tablets and engraved with a Buddhist sutra, signed Toshimasa, 9.2cm (3 5/8in); Nanban, carved and pierced with a dragon and scrolls, unsigned, 7.6cm (3in); a kiku-form tsuba, the rim carved with numerous mon, unsigned, 7.3cm (2 7/8in); a Hamano tsuba carved and inlaid with a sage reading, signed Gyonen nanaju-sai (at the age of 70) Masayuki, 7.6cm (3in); a large tsuba carved and inlaid with Hangai, signed Joi, 9cm (3½in); a shakudo tsuba carved, pierced and inlaid with battling warriors, signed Soheishi Nyudo Soten sei, 7.9cm (3 1/8in); a brass tsuba pierced and inlaid with a hare and grasses, signed Shokatei Tomotsune, 8.3cm (3¼in); and another carved and inlaid with Kanzan and Jittoku, signed Haruyuki, 7.6cm (3in).
