Footnotes

  • Whilst the majority of the Honnami's secret archive was destroyed during the Great Earthquake of 1923, the family have published some general studies from time-to-time. These include 'Nippon-to' [Tokyo 1923], 'Toko Soran', an index of swordsmiths [Tokyo 1926], and contributions to Nippon-to, the 25 Volume study, published by Yuzankaku in 1935.

The makemono here may date from a similar era, since this was also a time when publications appeared which related to famous swords. 1935 saw the appearance of 'Mei-to Zufu' [Pictures of Famous Japanese Swords] by Homma Junji, who also compiled the 'Kokuho Token Zufu' [Photos of 163 blades classified as National Treasures] during the years 1936-39.
