Footnotes

  • EXHIBITED:
London, The New Gallery, Summer Exhibition, 1905, no.66.

The present sitter was the wife of the playwright and barrister Walter Frith, and daughter-in-law of the artist, William Powell Frith R.A.

'I have a charming letter from Frith, R.A., apropos of a portrait of his daughter-in-law, Walter's wife, which I had painted and which was being exhibited in the New Gallery; after congratulating me on the result, he was sorry to say he could find little else either in painting or sculpture that gave him much satisfaction in the exhibition.' (G.P. Jacomb-Hood, With Brush and Pencil, London, 1925, p.315.).
