Footnotes

  • The former pair described by How in a letter dated 23 September 1943: "the snappiest pair of candlesticks, London 1697 by M.A. ( Margas Madden? or whoever it might be) as on other similar dated toys, very like the pair of candlesticks you already have but finer, in fact these are easily the best I have seen." Purchased for £55.

The latter pair purchased at an unknown date but they were in the collection by 30th November 1957; Lady Edwards suggested them for inclusion in the Toronto Exhibition January to March 1958.
