by George Manjoy, London 1702 and 1705 both with raised gadrooned edges and tapering cylindrical feet, the former initialled H N, diameter 5.5cm and 6cm. (2)
The former part of the present lot almost certainly offered on approval by How as gift from Lady Edwards to Sir Clive in the Autumn of 1943: "We are at the present moment hot foot after an exceedingly good little tankard with full hall-marks, 1702 I think, and an even better salver on foot, same date I think. We haven't said anything to Sir Clive as yet and in view of the approaching highly festive season, Turkey & Plum Pudding, etc. we wondered whether you would like to have one or both." Though she appears to have returned them on 23rd November and they were purchased later by Sir Clive.
