A fine and rare early 18th century gold-mounted Frommery-type enamel snuff box
mounts unmarked, London circa 1720
Rectangular, the cover set with an chased gold and enamel-on-copper panel decorated in the eastern-style with a rose in translucent red with elaborate translucent green acanthus-style foliage amongst dragon flies, the underside with a similarly created panel depicting the fable of the Fox and the Grapes, the chased gold fox sits on a translucent green bank surrounded by the fruiting grape vine, gold hinge mount with reeded borders, the base with a panel of chased gold musicians on a white ground within a translucent green 'lacy' strapwork border with white enamel 'pearls,' the underside with another depiction of the Fox and the Grapes, length 8.2cm.

We have the most superb box, white enamel with gold mounts and the most lovely decoration of vines, flowers, butterflies, dogs, people etc., etc., molded in gold, crushed emerald, crushed sapphires and crushed rubies - £250. One of the most lovely boxes that I have ever seen."
