The Harbour signed and dated 'Trevelyan '39' (lower right) oil on canvas 65 x 100 cm. (25 5/8 x 39 3/8 in.)
EXHIBITED: London, Royal College of Art, Julian Trevelyan, 1998
Painted the year after Trevelyan resigned from the English Surrealist Group, the present work looks forward to a more naturalistic position for the artist. Owing a debt to the work of Alfred Wallis and Christopher Wood, The Harbour depicts a charming scene of French maritime activity.
