An imitation Persian astrolabe,
of brass construction, 5½in (14cm) diameter

  • A totally unusable instrument typical of many produced for the tourist market throughout the 20th century.

For the portrait of a maker of such in Isfahan see Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Islamic Science: An Illustrated Study, 1976, 121 pl. 76 although with the unfortunate caption of 'a contemporary master astrolabe maker'.
