A very early key-wind musical box, playing four airs,
circa 1820,
Serial. No. 5471,
with small single-spring motor, bass-left 21-part sectional comb with teeth in groups of five, high-position brass comb bar on plain polished brass bedplate with Serial Number stamped to front-right, blued cylinder bracket screws, presently fitted within an associated but period mahogany case, movement held by shaped loafers from original horizontal case screw mounts and exposed control tips and winding spindle extended, inside plain lid remains of retailer's label for 'James Gorham [of Kensington]', with a later key, (pinning poor from bass end to middle, two teeth off) - 12in. (30.5cm) wide, the cylinder 7.7/8in. (20cm)
