the hood with floral marquetry borders, later plain pillars and caddy, over a convex throat moulding, the trunk door enriched with marquetry panels depicting a musician playing pipes with a companion dressed in a fool's costume, over two more typical floral panels, the plinth base with a large scale of St George and the Dragon, with attendant dogs and the captive female figure on a hill behind, the sides inlaid with geometric strung borders, the 11.25 inch Roman and Arabic brass dial with cherub and foliage spandrels between foliate engraved borders, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial, decorated calendar aperture and ring turned winding holes, signed to the lower edge of the chapter ring, the weight driven movement with anchor escapement, inside countwheel strike on a bell, the plates united by five knopped and finned pillars, 214.5cm
