  • Raffaelo Monti was a sculptor, author and poet. Born in Milan, he studied under his father, the noted sculptor Gaetano Matteo Monti and worked in Vienna and Milan before settling in London in 1848.
    Monti exhibited at the Royal Academy and achieved national recognition for his acclaimed the "Veiled Vestal" produced for the 6th Duke of Devonshire. A bust based on this work cast by Copeland in their signature 'Parian statury porcelain' was issued in 1861 by the Crystal Palace Art Union.
    Whilst producing the majority of his works in marble he also created sculpture in metals and porcelain and throughout his life he interests in all fields of the applied and literary arts.
