the bronze model of a wolf on a white marble base carved with paw prints and foot prints, signed VALTON to the marble base and with Jollet & Cie Foundry stamp, raised on an associated Antique Green marble plinth with a gilt relief depicting Ancient Egyptian figures, 58cm wide x 33cm high excluding plinth,

  • Valton studied under the great Animalier masters Barye and Fremiet and exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1868 until 1914, first in plaster and wax and later in bronze. His preferred subject was lions and this model is one of his most celebrated.
