A George III carved mahogany dressing table possibly attributable to Thomas Chippendale
The serpentine moulded edge top enclosing a baize lined slide enclosing a fitted interior on tapering fluted legs and turned lotus and guilloche decorated feet, 118cm wide, 54cm deep, 76cm high (46" wide, 21" deep, 29.5" high).

  • This pattern of foot was employed by Thomas Chippendale with various modifications on recorded seat furniture including a set of eight hall chairs supplied to Sir Roland Wynn for Nostell Priory, Yorkshire, circa 1775, on a set of twelve armchairs and four sofas supplied to Sir Penistone Lamb for the salon at Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire, circa 1773 and on a set of eighteen armchairs, two sofas and three window stools supplied to Edwin Lascelles for the Music room at Harewood House, Yorkshire circa 1770. See C.Gilbert, The Life and Works of Thomas Chippendale, London 1978, pl.155, pl.185 & pl.190. This form of tapering fluted cylindrical leg parallels that on the set of four stools supplied by Chippendale in 1772 to Sir Edward Knatchbull (1767–79) for the dining room at Mersham Le Hatch, Kent.
