A Regency ebonised carved chaise longue
in the manner of Gillows
The overscrolled upholstered back and arms with scroll terminals above a squab cushion seat terminating in a large scroll end, the moulded seat rail on carved hairy lion's paw feet, the decoration refreshed., 210cm wide, 94cm deep, 86cm high (82.5" wide, 37" deep, 33.5" high).

    The solid scrolling terminus to the chaise offered here appears on the giltwood settee supplied by Gillows as part of a suite of twelve armchairs and two settees made for Colonel Hughes of Kinmel Park, Denbighshire in 1805. The Kimnel Park suite also employs animal paw feet. One settee from the suite is now in the collection of The V&A (W.38:1 to 4-1930)
    and illustrated in S.Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840,, Suffolk, 2008, p.212., pl.188.
