Studio Job the collaboration between designers Job Smeets (1970) and Nynke Tynagel (1977) established in 2000 have helped redefine the decorative arts for the contemporary age, developing an expressive language that references the traditional and the topical and marries extraordinary crafts traditions with contemporary technologies.

Studio Job present their work in collections that they consider as chapters in an evolving narrative. Important series such as Homework 2006-7 and Robber Baron 2007 illustrate their virtuoso handing of rarified materials and extreme iconography. Perished their first marquetry collection in 2006, employed 2-color imagery depicting various skeletons presumed to be those of extinct animals, birds, and sea creatures.

The Industry collection was designed and produced in 2007-2008 and exhibited in Mitterand + Cramer in 2009. Conceived as the components of a room set, the installation comprised seven works of which five are marquetry: a cabinet, a screen, a dressoir, a table and a pedestal. Inlaid with bird's eye maple veneer dyed white and black dyed tulip wood veneer, the traditional technique is enhanced by modern laser technology to achieve amazingly intricate compositions. Like Perished, Industry reflects a socio-political engagement and apocalyptic world view that appears at once serious and ironic. The silhouettes of helicopters, nuclear power plants, high voltage pylons, guns, bullets, knives, submarines, satellite dishes, tanks, missiles, bombs, radio towers, cranes, planes, grenades, tools, AK-47's, sperms, and depiction of surviving animals (snakes, flies, cockroaches, birds, butterflies, mice, salamanders) as well as skeletons (turtles, lizards, toucans, antilopes, taurus, fish, ostrich, ...).read as an inventory of 21st century capitalism and its potential nadir ; an "end of the world" scenario where man clearly plays a leading role.
Studio Job has collaborated with various companies including Royal Tichelaar Makkum, Swarovski, Bisazza and Venini. Their work has been exhibited in Musuems and galleries internationally including Moss, V&A Museum and the solo exhibition at the Groninger Museum in 2011.
