Footnotes

  • Very rare edition with the striking cover design by Boccioni, the influential Italian painter and sculptor who, despite his short life, was one of the main figures in the development of the revolutionary aesthetic of the Futurism movement.

The composer and musicologist Franceso Balilla Pratella turned to futurism in 1910, and sought to introduce the "order of disorder" through his use of rhythmic irregularity. The book comprises the score for his Inno alla Vita. Musica futurista per orchestra (later performed in Rome on a chaotic Futurist evening), preceded by his three recently published futurist essays: Il Manifesto dei musicisti futursti, Il Manifesto tecnico della musica futurista and La distruzione della quadratura.
