MDCCCLXXVI, 2 leaves on paper: testimonial finely illuminated (with design of flowers and plants) in colours and gilt at inner margin (signed J.E.   • Edmund E. Martin (1844-1885) formed a close friendship at with the poet Gerald Manley Hopkins whilst fellow students at Bailliol College, Oxford. In 1873 he was appointed minister "became minister of the distinguished Unitarian congregation in Hope Street, Liverpool... [after his] defection from Anglicanism, in an appointment surprising for one with so little dissenting or ministerial experience. The congregation prospered in the early period of his tenure but later fell off..." (ODNB).
