Footnotes
The Hundred Horse Chestnut, or Castagno dei Cento Cavalli, in Sant'Alfio, Sicily, is the largest and oldest known chestnut tree in the world. Located on the eastern slope of Mount Etna, it is believed to be 2000-4000 years old. The other trees include the largest surviving Dragonsblood Tree, and a 50 foot Erica arborea, or 'tree heath', both of which are found in Teneriffe. The remaining image is a very large Taxodium distichum (conifer) near Oaxaca, Mexico.
