A pair of portrait miniatures of Henry Otho Nicholson Shaw (1889-1954) and his wife, Iris Shaw (née Owen); the former, wearing charcoal coat, white shirt, charcoal bowtie, his dark hair parted to the right; the latter, wearing white dress edged with cream and blue embroidery, blue jacket, pearl necklace, her brown hair set in a permanent wave beneath a matching cream hat.
The former signed on the obverse and dated J.L.V. Bullimore 1927 and again on the reverse H.O.N. Shaw/ painted by J.L.V.Bullimore/ 1927.; the latter, signed on the obverse and dated J.L.V. Bullimore/ 1939; the former, housed in a gilt-metal frame, set within a rectangular brown leather travelling case; the latter, housed within a gilt-metal frame with tooled border and standing attachment to the reverse.

Footnotes

  • Henry was the eldest child of William Otho Nicholson Shaw, JP (1846-1910) of Arrowe Park, Cheshire and Marie Odette Exshaw (1861-1936) of Bordeaux. Having been educated at Harrow, Henry went on to study at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating with honours in 1913. During his time at Oxford, Henry became engaged to Phyllis Blanche Moffat, but the couple seemingly parted prior to his graduation.
