Catherine Rutland née Noel, Duchess of Rutland (1657-1733), wearing cream embroidered dress with ermine trim to her shoulders and pearls to her sleeves, stiff concertinaed collar edged with lace, her black and grey headdress edged with pearls, covered with a black veil and fastened beneath her chin with a black ribbon bow.
Ebonised and turned wood frame with gilded inner border, the reverse inscribed Mrs Rigby's Picture/ of Lady Katherine Noel/ Daughter of the Earl of Gainsborough/ and Grandaughter of the Duke of/ Rutland who resided in Dr Prower's/ House at Cranborne several Months/ previous to her death, as part of his/ Family and was buried in his Vault/ at Cranborne by her most/ particular Desire.; together with another version of the same miniature in a turned wood frame and two further miniatures portraying ladies wearing blue dresses (English School, circa 1770 and 1800 respectively), gilt-metal frames, one with brooch pin attachment to the reverse.
