Footnotes

  • "When from the lofty Castle I espie, The ragged rocks, which round about it lye". Mount-Ogrueil was written entirely in verse whilst Prynne was exiled to Jersey following his trial for sedition in 1637, and is dedicated to the prison's governor Philip Carteret.
