FRYER (JOHN)
A New Account of East-India and Persia... Being Nine Years Travels, Begun 1672. And Finished 1681, first edition, title printed in red and black, engraved portrait, 7 engraved plates and maps (3 folding), full-page engraved map (with printed overslip caption beneath), several woodcut illustrations, blank sheet with ink note "Errours are corrected." pasted over printed page of errata (c4 verso), blindstamp on frontispiece and title, ownership inscription of "P. Footnotes

  • John Fryer, elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1697, travelled for ten years throughout India and Persia whilst in the employ of the East India Company. The ownership inscription of "P. Francis, 1792" is probably that of Sir Philip Francis (1740-1818), politician who was appointed to the supreme council in India, where he lived from 1774 to 1781. See illustration overleaf.
