Guangxu, dated by inscription to AD1908 and of the period
The body formed as an opening lotus blossom with overlapping incised petals enamelled in pink ending with a square spout, the underside with an applied lime-green stem stippled and inscribed in black Daqing Guangxu sanshisinian Jiaotaihu fujin qiucao jinian bei.

  • The inscription may be translated: Cup commemorating the autumn military exercises held near Lake Taiming in Anhui during the 34th year of the Guangxu reign of the Great Qing Dynasty. A similar cup dated to 1907 was included in the Min Chiu Society Exhibition, Hong Kong, and is illustrated by L.A.Cort and J.Stuart, Joined Colors: Decoration and Meaning in Chinese Porcelain, Washington D.C., 1993, no.67.
